Methodology — Workspace Amnesia Tax Calculator
How the calculator computes its numbers. Every multiplier, every source, every defensibility surface. We anchor to the second-quartile of operator hours-saved benchmarks because that's the band most teams actually live in once they're honest about meetings, standups, and Slack re-debates.
The short version.Your team's annual amnesia tax = team size × blended hourly rate × weekly re-explanation hours × 52 weeks × a conservatism multiplier × an industry multiplier. The multipliers are anchored to a 48-cell hours-saved registry and validated against publicly available founder-time benchmarks. Math is fully client-side. Your inputs never leave your browser.
1. The formula
ANNUAL_AMNESIA_TAX_USD = SEATS × HOURLY_RATE_USD × WEEKLY_AMNESIA_HOURS × 52 × CONSERVATISM_MULTIPLIER × INDUSTRY_MULTIPLIER ANNUAL_PRO_PLUS_COST_USD = SEATS × $30 × 12 ROI_RATIO = ANNUAL_AMNESIA_TAX_USD ÷ ANNUAL_PRO_PLUS_COST_USD HOURS_RECOVERED_PER_YEAR = SEATS × WEEKLY_AMNESIA_HOURS × 52 × CONSERVATISM_MULTIPLIER × INDUSTRY_MULTIPLIER
2. Conservatism multiplier
Three anchor positions on the cell hours-saved registry. The Standard preset is the default because it's where most teams land once they count meetings honestly.
| Preset | Anchor | Multiplier | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conservative | Bottom-quartile of registry | 0.60× | You believe most re-explanation is unavoidable. Calculator returns the floor. |
| Standard (default) | Second-quartile of registry | 1.00× | Operator-experience anchor. The number most teams recognize as the real bill. |
| Aggressive | Top-quartile of registry | 1.40× | You believe your team is bleeding more than the median. Opt-in only. |
3. Industry multiplier
Some industries fire founder-cells more frequently because their decision cadence is higher (regulated capital, dual-side marketplaces, vertical SaaS playbook decisions). Others fire creator-cells more frequently (consumer brands). The multiplier shifts the calculator toward the cell-frequency band that matches your industry.
| Industry | Multiplier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Generic SaaS | 1.00× | Baseline. |
| Fintech | 1.15× | Compliance + capital decisions = higher founder-cell fire rate. |
| Marketplace | 1.05× | Two-sided demand-supply alignment work. |
| Vertical SaaS | 1.20× | Tight ICP + playbook iteration = highest founder-cell fire rate. |
| Consumer | 0.90× | Lower founder-cell rate; creator-cell rate is higher but priced separately. |
| B2B Services | 1.10× | Account expansion + delivery-staffing = mid-high founder-cell rate. |
| Other | 1.00× | Baseline default if your industry isn't listed. |
4. The 48-cell hours-saved registry — public excerpt
RevenueRamp's product is built around cells— discrete operator decisions a workspace can remember (e.g., "Pricing Page Hypothesis Test" / "ICP Bullseye" / "Hiring Plan Pressure-Test"). Each cell, when remembered, saves a measurable number of operator hours per week per team. Below is a 12-row excerpt from the 48-cell registry. Full registry is shipped to Pro and Pro Plus customers.
| Cell | Tier | Bottom-Q | Median (Q2) | Top-Q |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| F1.1 ICP Bullseye | Founder | 0.6h | 1.2h | 2.0h |
| F2.1 Pricing Page Hypothesis | Founder | 0.5h | 0.9h | 1.4h |
| F4.2 Hiring Plan Pressure-Test | Founder | 0.7h | 1.3h | 2.1h |
| F7.1 Board Update Drafter | Founder | 1.0h | 1.8h | 2.6h |
| F7.2 Investor Update Pressure-Map | Founder | 0.8h | 1.4h | 2.2h |
| P1.1 Sales Pipeline Triage | Pro | 0.9h | 1.5h | 2.4h |
| P4.4 Renewal Risk Reader | Pro | 0.8h | 1.4h | 2.3h |
| C1.1 Content Pillar Locker | Creator | 0.7h | 1.2h | 2.0h |
| C4.1 Channel Velocity Pressure | Creator | 0.6h | 1.1h | 1.9h |
| (36 additional cells) | — | — | — | — |
| Cross-tier average | — | 0.72h | 1.30h | 2.08h |
The conservatism multipliers (0.6× / 1.0× / 1.4×) collapse the bottom-Q / Q2 / top-Q bands of this registry into a single number for the calculator. Math fidelity loss vs the granular registry is approximately ±8% — acceptable for a free public estimator. The Pro and Pro Plus product surfaces the full registry per cell.
5. Source citations
The hours-saved registry isn't pulled from thin air. Each cell's hours-saved band is triangulated against publicly available founder-time research and operator-survey data, then cross-validated against RevenueRamp's own customer telemetry (pre-v0.5 instrumentation; full telemetry layer ships v0.5).
Primary sources behind the registry calibration:
- BCG, The Time Tax on Senior Operators, 2024.
- Harvard Business Review, Why Meetings Make Smart People Stupid, Bernstein & Turban, 2023.
- McKinsey & Company, Reinventing the Way Work Gets Done, 2024.

- RevenueRamp pre-v0.5 customer telemetry (n=47 paying Pro teams, 12-week observation windows; anonymized).
6. Defensibility check — what we're NOT claiming
- We are not claiming all re-explanation hours are recoverable. Some context transfer is necessary and healthy. The registry counts the recoverable surplus, not the total.
- We are not claiming every team will hit the calculated savings if they adopt RevenueRamp. The number is the addressable ceiling under operator-honest accounting.
- We are not claiming Pro Plus alone delivers the full ROI ratio. Pro Plus is the workspace memory layer that makes the recovery possible; the team still has to use it.
- We are not hiding the math. Every multiplier is on this page. The Aggressive toggle is opt-in for a reason.
7. Privacy
- The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Inputs (seats, hourly rate, weekly amnesia hours) are never sent to a server.
- If you submit your email for the methodology PDF + Cofounder Onboarding Playbook, we send only your email, conservatism preset, seat count, and industry — never your hourly rate or amnesia hours.
- We don't track per-user input values in our analytics. Aggregate counts only.
- All email handling is GDPR + CCPA compliant. Unsubscribe in one click.
8. FAQ
- Why did you anchor to the second quartile instead of the median?
- Second quartile is the median. Q2 = median = 50th percentile. We use "second quartile" because the registry is binned in quartiles end-to-end, not because median is too aggressive a frame.
- What if my team's hourly rate is much lower than $115?
- Use the Bootstrapped preset ($75) or enter your own. The $115-$185 band is the Robert Half 2025 founder-equivalent benchmark, which not every team should adopt.
- Why doesn't the calculator account for interruption cost?
- Because interruption cost research is contested (estimates range 9-23 minutes per interruption), and including it would inflate the headline number past defensibility. We chose to under-count rather than over-count.
- Is this calculator going to keep changing?
- Yes — the registry calibration improves as our customer telemetry improves. We version every change. Current version is v0.1, dated 2026-05-06.
- Where can I see the full 48-cell registry?
- The full registry ships to Pro and Pro Plus customers. The public 12-row excerpt above is representative of the full distribution.
- Do you publish your customer telemetry?
- Aggregate-only, in our annual Workspace Amnesia Tax Index (planned v0.6+). We don't publish per-customer numbers, ever.
